The Balkan Dance Project is an international dance platform that brings together young and talented choreographers, dancers and other artists from the Balkan region. They become part of the Plovdiv 2019 programme and the Sofia Municipality Programme Culture with the Balkan Dance Project performance – C R A V E.

CRAVE [To feel a very strong desire for something] Dance performance for the insatiable “hunger” that can never be quenched; about desire and its many forms, the crave to achieve, the need to earn, to be the first, to know, to be able to crush, to break, to possess, to abuse, to say NO. For the attention that I’m so craving for. A dance performance not for sensual pleasures, aspirations, objects of desire; not for the need for enlightenment, the quest, the ideal; not the essence of craving, the state of spirit and soul, the body, or more than that. We stare at the play with the terrible, sinister, forbidden, with what we are trying to get rid of, and it always comes back to us. Craving is what never stops, never ends, because if it is satisfied, saturated, it has the ability to become the weapon of our own destruction. The satisfied craving is a loss of meaning, void, its opposite. Through movement, dance, Bulgarian authentic music, sensory and intimate work, we will explore the nature of craving, the cycle of desire, the eruption of wildlife and the suffering that comes from all this.

The project is part of the program of Plovdiv 2019 – European Capital of Culture and is financed by the Cultural Fund of the Sofia Municipality.
